About the event

Our much-loved resident jazz band returns following a run of sell-out Jazz nights in 2025.

From 7.30pm, settle in as live jazz fills the theatre bar with atmosphere — the perfect backdrop for a relaxed, sociable evening. This month’s special guest is Pete Canter.

Pete Canter is an accomplished jazz saxophonist, upright bass player and flautist and a composer of original jazz and contemporary music. His jazz repertoire draws upon swing, bebop and latin jazz standards and originals.

Pete first played on the 1980s London jazz scene, then in Wales during the 1990s, before moving to the Southwest in 2001. There, he has established himself on the local jazz scene and further afield as a fine player, composer and band leader responsible for a string of creative projects. Pete has recorded several well received jazz albums and has played at major U.K. festivals including Cheltenham and Teignmouth Jazz Festivals.

For 13 years up until December 2023, Pete hosted the Bridge Jazz Club, a popular monthly jazz night at Exeter Phoenix. Since February 2024 he has hosted a new and thriving jazz session, Jazz at The Mermaid, in Gandy St, Exeter which meets on the first Wednesday each month.

Pete is a Member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians and a composer member of the Performing Rights Society.

The bar will be flowing, including prosecco, beautifully made cocktails, and seriously fancy non-alcoholic drinks, making this a perfect night for dates, friends, or anyone who enjoys their evenings a little more refined.

You can also order freshly prepared 12" hand stretched thin crust pizzas on the night, perfect for sharing (or not), for you to enjoy alongside the music.

And our signature Tiffin Tins are also available, elegant, grazing boxes designed to elevate your evening.
