OPPORTUNITIES
Opportunities
There are so many ways to be part of the Blakehay, on stage, behind the scenes, or right in the middle of our buzzing community. Whether you’re looking for paid work, a place to share your skills, or a platform for your art, this is where you’ll find the latest ways to join in.
Current Vacancies
From time to time we have paid roles available in our team from technical support and box office to bar staff and project coordinators. When we do, you’ll find all the details here, including hours, pay rates, and how to apply.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, ages, and experiences, if you’ve got the passion, we’d love to hear from you.
Volunteering
Volunteers are at the heart of what we do. From greeting audiences at the door to helping backstage or supporting events, they’re the friendly faces and safe pairs of hands that make everything run smoothly.
In return, you’ll get free training, a chance to be part of a brilliant team, and the occasional opportunity to watch a show for free.
If you’d like to join our volunteer crew, drop us a line, we’d be thrilled to meet you.
Creative & Artistic Opportunities
Got a show, workshop, or exhibition you’d love to bring to the Blakehay? We’re always looking for exciting ideas from performers, companies, artists, and makers. If you’ve got something you think our audiences would love ,or something new they didn’t know they needed yet, we want to hear from you.
Partnerships & Collaborations
We love working with community groups, schools, and organisations to make things happen. That might be co-producing a show, hosting a joint event, or running an outreach project together. If you’ve got an idea and need a space or a partner, we’re all ears.
Work Experience & Placements
We offer hands-on opportunities for students, graduates, and anyone looking to change careers or learn something new.
From front-of-house to technical, marketing to event management, you’ll get real experience in a busy, welcoming theatre environment.
We also run training programmes like Stable Foundations, supporting people into creative and community work.

Our Commitment to Children and Families (2025–2027)
At the Blakehay, we’re building a programme that offers something for everyone, but one of our key priorities for 2025–2027 is supporting and encouraging productions for children and families. We believe theatre should be accessible to all, and that children are audiences of today, not just the audiences of tomorrow. They deserve work that is inspiring, memorable, relevant, and full of imagination.
We want to work alongside artists as they navigate the process of making Theatre for Young Audiences, whether that’s testing brand new ideas, finding fresh voices, or building productions that put children right at the centre.
We’re especially keen to collaborate with artists from backgrounds currently underrepresented in the sector, including those marginalised due to ethnicity, disability, gender identity, sexuality, age, or socio-economic status. Accessibility sits at the heart of what we do, both in the work we present and in how we welcome audiences into our building.
Getting Programmed at the Blakehay
We’re always open to conversations with artists and companies creating exciting work for children and families. Alongside our other strands of programming, we’ll be developing and presenting a number of productions for 0–16 year olds each year, in ways that range from co-productions and residencies to visiting shows and one-off events.
We’re interested in building relationships, not just booking one-off slots, so reach out if you think the Blakehay could be a good home for your work.
Programming Priorities
For our family programme, we are especially looking for work that is:
-
For ages 0–16 – theatre that understands and speaks directly to children.
-
Relevant now – reflecting the world young audiences live in today.
-
Inspiring and memorable – productions that families will talk about long after the curtain falls.
-
Made with children in mind – whether through consultation, participation, or a strong child-centred approach.
-
Inclusive and accessible – welcoming all families, regardless of background or ability.
-
High quality and original – fresh, bold, and full of imagination.
This is just one strand of our programme, but it’s a strand we care deeply about. If you’re making work for children and families, we’d love to hear from you.
