About the event
Codetta
“Part of the smartness of this show is that it isn’t afraid to show its characters as more than
one thing, and Codetta – despite her sexual awakening – is very much a little girl.”
- Bristol 24/7
Codetta is a 12 year old girl. Her favourite band is The Daffodils, her best friend is called
Suzie, and she is searching for her lost toy, Pig. But suddenly, everything feels different, and
the world through Codetta’s eyes begins to change.
Without warning she is experiencing strange sexual awakenings, having arguments with her
mother and second guessing her best friend in the whole wide world. The sureness of
childhood is slipping away, in its place, the certainty of the end of the world is looming.
Codetta didn’t plan on the apocalypse coming so soon. But here she is, having to let go of
the things she loves in order to make it out alive. Luckily, she has The Daffodils. Who, in all
their glamour and glory, are always there for Codetta. With advice, songs, and only some
scandals, they are her Gods. When Codetta has no one, she has The Daffodils.
This exhilarating show is drenched in 2010s nostalgia, glittering pop, and sharpness.
Kismet draws on their own personal experiences of girlhood to create a fantastical, musical
world that takes the coming-of-age genre of spin. Using original music, movement, and
storytelling, Kismet deftly portrays both the magical imagination and terrifying spirals of
Codetta’s mind. This show is emotional, contemporary, and restless; the result of our
obsession with endings, the intensity of being young and the boom of female pop. We hope
that Codetta will stay with you for a long, long time.
So grab your hairbrush, slam your bedroom door, and hit play on the pop renaissance.
Codetta is proudly supported by The Wardrobe Ensemble and Bristol School of Acting.
