About the event
Welcome to an evening of rich harmony, storytelling, and seafaring spirit at the Blakehay Theatre.
This concert brings together two much-loved West Country ensembles: the Waves of Harmony Chorus from Weston-super-Mare and The Harry Browns, one of the South West’s longest-standing shanty groups, hailing from Bristol.
The Waves of Harmony Chorus are known for their vibrant sound, expressive performances, and a repertoire that spans the world of musical theatre and beyond. Their selections this evening celebrate the magic of the stage, drawing on beloved songs from classic and contemporary shows. Expect moments of tenderness, and joy as the chorus brings these pieces to life with warmth and precision.
In contrast—and in complement—The Harry Browns will transport us to the open sea. With deep roots in maritime tradition, their performances capture the rhythm of working life aboard ship, the camaraderie of sailors, and the timeless pull of the ocean. Sea shanties and nautical songs, once used to coordinate labour and lift spirits on long voyages, are given fresh energy through their robust and engaging delivery.
Together, these two groups create a programme that ebbs and flows between stage and sea—between the bright lights of theatre and the rolling tides of maritime song. Though distinct in style, both traditions share a common thread: music as a means of storytelling, connection, and shared experience.
We invite you to sit back and enjoy this journey through “Songs from Film and Shows” and “Songs of the Sea”—an evening where harmony meets horizon.
