VOLUNTEER AT THE BLAKEHAY?

Be part of something special

The Blakehay isn’t just a theatre, it’s a place where stories come alive, music fills the air, and community comes first. From unforgettable performances to quiet acts of kindness behind the scenes, none of it happens without brilliant volunteers. Whether you’re a lifelong theatre-lover or simply want to give back to your community, there’s a place for you here.

Why volunteer?

Volunteering at the Blakehay means:

  • Belonging to a friendly, inclusive team

  • Gaining hands-on experience in a creative venue

  • Meeting new people and building confidence

  • Supporting the arts in Weston-super-Mare

  • Being part of something that matters

Whether you’re welcoming audiences front-of-house, helping with events, assisting backstage, or lending a hand in the café — every role makes a difference.

Who can volunteer?

Everyone is welcome. We especially encourage applications from:

  • Young people looking to build skills

  • Older adults keen to stay active and connected

  • People with learning disabilities or health needs (we offer supported volunteering)

  • Anyone looking to grow their confidence, CV, or community ties

We’ll match your availability, interests, and goals with the right role.

Roles include:

  • Front of House Hosts – greeting guests, checking tickets, creating a warm welcome

  • Bar & Café Support – serving drinks and snacks, restocking, helping at busy events

  • Backstage & Tech Runners – supporting with set-up, props, and show prep

  • Creative & Admin Support – helping with posters, mail-outs, marketing, or set dressing

  • Event Volunteers – lending a hand at festivals, family shows, and special events

Don’t worry if you’ve never volunteered before — we’ll guide you every step of the way.

When can I help?

We’re flexible. Some volunteers give a few hours a month, others come in weekly, it’s totally up to you. Daytimes, evenings, weekends, we’ll work around your life.
